TIROLENSIS COMITATUS - CARNIOLA, CHAZIOLAE DUCATOS

splendid map that, according to a habit of the time, groups together, on the same leaf, the territory of Tyrol and that of Carniola including also the Friuli part of the Gorizia territory. This map is taken from the extremely rare first edition of "Speculum Orbis Terrarum", a work by G. De Jode, printed in Antwerp in 1578 and reprinted only once by his son Cornelius in 1593. All the maps by De Jode are very difficult to find on the market today because of the meager success his atlas had, due to the “war” declared against him in Antwerp by his adversary Ortelio.
