Description
At the time when the traditional postcard had not yet become a promotional means, prints made with various engraving techniques were used to advertise the most important tourist destinations in the Alps. The so-called “souvenirs” – booklets that contained engraved prints by various authors aiming at promoting the Alpine region – were bestsellers in the 19th century. This booklet contains some interesting pictures of Geneva, Vevey, Sion, the Hospice Saint Bernard, as well as a series of views of the most important places of the Mont Blanc chain: from the Mer de la Glace and Montanvert to Grands Mulets, from the Col du Géant to the traditional view with Chamonix in the foreground.
